ABOUT ME

We met in college and bonded over a road trip from Minnesota to Reno in Laines tragically hopeless Lexus that took us though America's heartland of endless corn fields.

Syd has since graduated and spent 6 months of last year in various parts of India as an English teacher and seer of all things uber-fantastic. Now she spends her time teaching in Las Vegas and coaching a group of 16 year old girls while frantically saving for her upcoming 2 month adventure in Europe. Laine still calls Reno home and is finishing up her degree in Social Work and working at the neighborhood Starbucks.

We love to laugh and have a good time while experiencing things as richly and as fully and passionately as is humanly possible. Sydney loves to read and play her guitar and Laine is a closet hockey superstar. Coffee talks and tasty meals are enjoyed by both as are hooded sweatshirts and Refresh Tea.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We're new to the couch surfing community but it sounds like a fantastic concept and we're interested in seeing how the whole thing works. We want to dabble a little in the whole surfing of couches for the next couple of months and see how it all plays out.

Interests

Really...what aren't we interested in is a better question. Like say the fuzzies between your toes or the leftovers gone horribly horribly wrong in the back of your fridge. But other than that, we're pretty much down for anything.....especially if we've never done it before.

Syd plays the guitar, reads excessively, cooks on occasion, likes to run and work out, goes snowboarding, plays volleyball, has a love affair with the outdoors and her small puppy named Rascal, and loves traveling, new experiences, and new people.

Laine is also a reader and is fascinated by black and white photography. She loves the outdoors as well and good "withering" sessions while lying under the stars. (laine could be the most loyal and genuinely fun person i know...syd)

Oh god...can i say everything??? Well, a few specifications....with Hip Hop and Rap music I absolutely demand creativity and I am the only person I know that misses the 90's alternative scene. I own too much Dave Matthews but I'll never apologize for it. No not ever.

I was an English major....that pretty much makes me obsessed with the written word...I'll try every genera once. Augusten Burroughs, Rob Bell, Donald Miller, and Hubert Selby are a few contemporary favorites. But the reading enjoyment comes from all realms: Leo Tolstoy, Jane Austen, David Sedaris, Maya Angelou, John Piper, Charles Dickens, Julia Scheers, George Orwell, Ray Bradburry, Mary Austin, Walt Whitman, Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, J.C Ryle, C.S. Lewis, Jeffrey Eugenedes, J.R.R Tolkien, Wilkie Collins....and on and on into infinity like Buzz Lightyear

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Syd went hiking in the Himalyan foothills through the rains of monsoon season with 4 other strangers freezing to their bones, but even more incredible was the small slum in Bombay where she taught 10 kids English without a translator. It was like making and experiencing magic every single day.

When in Vegas....don't pay for alcohol on the strip....take a cab 10 minutes south to the discount liquor store and stock up....drink from water glasses or Nalgenes.
