About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To listen in the council of souls to the thoughts of those who truely live, and those who have have lived, and live still.

ABOUT ME

I am a searcher after the god who orders existence. I desire to acquire as full a poetic knowledge of life and the souls of men as I may. I desire to learn from those who know, and to work with those who hunger to know.
I think learning practical, physical skills and becoming self sufficient is a worthy goal. But also the learning of how to function among human beings, how to teach, and how to learn (also being practical skills) are of vital significance.
I enjoy physical exertion. Wrestling, Canoeing, Running, Break dancing (knees aren't so good anymore),
I play violin, and cello. And I like to write poetic prose. I can have a caustic sense of humor. My favorite occupation is learning about people, and why they tick the way they do.

PHILOSOPHY

Reason is trustworthy, but not infallible. Feelings and intuitions are not to be ignored, but should be inspected. Reason trumps feelings; intuition can sometimes trump reason. That is what I think about how we know.
I think life is about the surgery of your soul. And we should not think, "Avoid pain at all costs!" rather, "the god has it under control, but I see that nail, and am not going to step on it."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Someday, I might be able to provide a couch, but I don't know if I can settle down. But I hear you get more settled as you get older. For now, I will visit people, and write about them!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None. Although, my family has always been hospitable to the people we "knew". Or friends knew.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not many movies, but I like No Country for Old Men, Emporer's club, and the Nightwatch/Daywatch whateveryouwanttocallit. Nightmare before Christmas Anything with thought.
Music: Most anything musical (i.e. not everything that makes noise). Folk, Classical, some Rock, lots of things.
Books: Anna Karenina, The Brothers Karamazov, The prophet, The Plague, The Road, Personal Knowledge, All quiet on the Western Front, Hamlet, One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, East of Eden, The Lays of Beleriand, The Warden, Crime and Punishment, War and Peace, Mansfield Park,

Teach, Learn, Share

Most of the things I am good at, I am also fairly natural at. And as such, I am not a very good teacher of those things. However, I am glad to teach what I can. And as for learning, I would like to be a Renaissance man, and know everything. I am good at sharpening knives, and love doing it, and teaching it!
