关于我
CURRENT MISSION
enjoy living in one place and rest up for the next adventure
ABOUT ME
I'm originally from a little town in the mountains of Vermont but have been moving steadily southward in recent years. I love to be outside and am fascinated with biology and finding out more and more about how the world works. I hope to soon transition from labrat to some occupation that allows me to spend lots of time exploring outside.
Music is a love of mine. Each winter I spend 2 blissful weeks with my musical soulmates, the Renewal Chorus. We teach each other songs from whatever traditions and styles we each feel immersed in and passionate about (American shape-note, Georgian, Bulgarian, Arvo Part...) and then go on a 10-stop tour around New England, visiting old friends and making new ones. In D.C., I sing Bulgarian folk music with Orfeia, a group of local ladies under the direction of Tatiana Sarbinska, Bulgarian diva extraordinaire. This summer I was lucky enough to be able to travel with them to Bulgaria, where my fascination with the country's musical traditions increased every day.
My current obsession is with my new(old) 1980 cream-colored Hobart Kitchenaid mixer. I am baking a cake right now.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've traveled a bunch in the past few years and plan to stay relatively planted for a little while, but I am always hatching new travel plans and want to make contact with people to meet along the way.
Charlie and I hosted our first couch surfers last weekend and had a fantastic time talking, feasting, and exploring with them. By the end of the weekend, we felt as if we were all old friends. The experience renewed my excitement about couchsurfing!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Of and on for years I've been part of a traveling music group called Village Harmony. The classic Village Harmony experience is to spend 1 week living with other musicians at a retreat center learning music together, then to go on a two-week tour, giving concerts every night. After each concert, the group splits up and stays with local concert-goers.
In 2008 I went on a longer tour with a group called Northern Harmony that operates the same way. For 2 1/2 months I was welcomed into homes all over Europe and was delighted by my hosts' openness and generosity. In exchange for music, they opened up their homes and provided us with good food, entertainment, excellent conversation, and warm beds. I haven't used this website yet, but I hope to have the same types of experiences with it!
