Sobre mí
CURRENT MISSION
To learn and grow as a person. To be a nomad and to volunteer in each place I land.
ABOUT ME
I have raised two wonderful daughters, primarily alone. I'm very proud of them and I have instilled the gifts of compassion and learning about other cultures i them. I've enjoyed a variety of experiences while traveling throughout Mexico, most of which can only be identified as serendipitous. I enjoy working on community projects, especially among people with few resources. I would like to teach English, teach others how to teach effectively in a fun way, and continue to grow as a person. (writing this in March 2013.) Soon I will be going home to Indiana to spend several weeks with my family and then will go on to Uganda. I am beginning to learn the language Luganda. I am planning to stay there for several months or longer. My dream is to simply continuing to travel, teach, and write. I don't necessarily plan on teaching English in each location, unless that is what I find myself doing. I'm interested in learning other things and learning more about myself. It is now November and I'm still in Uganda. I find life here difficult but I am enjoying many aspects of the country and people. I hope to stay here just awhile longer before moving on to the next adventure.
PHILOSOPHY
Even if I don't agree with someone, I don't consider myself superior. I find that superiority is a sickness that has lasted throughout history and is still perpetuated in every society. That said, I am a very positive person and feel there are little pockets of cures, mostly through listening, really listening, to one another.
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am open! I do write and have a wide network across the globe. What else can I do?
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have stayed with people I've met through GlobalFreeloaders, Facebook, and families of friends. All the best moments have been spontaneous. Once, I arrived in the middle of the night in a pueblo in Durango, and my friends' band was there to greet me when I got off the bus! This last summer I stayed with a few different people I met through CS. This was in Chiapas, DF, and Guadalajara. Everyone was so helpful! I always learn so much more each visit and with each encounter. I have recommended it to many other teachers and people I know!

Algo increíble que he hecho
I taught English in un curso intensivo in a mountain village in Veracruz. I sang with mariachis in Guadalajara. I listened to a sax player en el centro historico en el DF as I sat on a bench on the corner. (That was 2008/9.)This past summer in Chiapas I got to spend time in Acteal which is where there was a massacre in 1997. They have a mass and ceremony the 22nd of every month. What an honor to spend time with the people there. I also spent an afternoon in a Zapatista community. My eyes are so much more open now!
Enseña, aprende, comparte
I always thought of myself as an openminded person but the more I travel and the more people I meet, I find that I am even moreso openminded. It is so beautiful to sit around and share with others!
