ABOUT ME

I'm an undergraduate at Oxford University, and having just finished my second year exams I'm going travelling! I've been excited about this all year.

Primarily for environmental reasons, I have decided to travel by train. I've never flown before, and having travelled by interrail last summer, I can't quite imagine any other way of getting from A to B. There's no jet lag, just rolling landscapes, and a gradual transition from countryside to city to countryside which is blurred, or just impossible to see from the jet stream, way up there.

At university, I'm involved in the student Socailist Worker's Party student society, and the larger group Antiwar Action Oxford, which works to build resistance against imperialism, and has worked hard this year to see through demands made during an occupation of the administration buildings of the university.

I like to dance, to all kinds of music. Samba, salsa, drum and bass, dance, techno....

I can't imagine what else you'd need to know! Oh, I'm friendly, and tidy, and most importantly, respectful.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm very new to couchsurfing. I've helped to host a Couchsurfer visiting my house mate, but have never hosted myself. The experience was very positive. It allowed me to learn alot about a culture I knew very litle about, as well as engage with my surroundings in a totally new light. This summer I'm making my way around Eastern Europe by interrail after a choir tour in Budapest, and I'am hoping that I can stay with someone, and repeat the same great experience I had earlier this year.

I have some experience of sharing my college room last year with second years who lived miles away from the library. While I stayed with my boyfriend, I left my room open to those in need of recovery from a late night essay crisis. It's not anywhere near the same as hosting guests unfamiliar with the city they're staying in, but it was still quite fun to build friendships I wouldn't have otherwise made.

Interesses

I love to listen and perform music. I play a few instruments, some very badly, but I love to sing. I most enjoy performing with other people, in choirs and orchestras, and this summer I'm lucky enough to be touring with my college choir to Budapest, in which I sing alto.

I can help with Bach chorals, teach socialist songs, answer questions related to chemistry, like 'why's the sky blue?', argue over the philosophy of science discuss art of the Northen School's, Byzantine frescos... If you're familiar with Blackwell's book store, and their freebe mug, you might be reminded of it by the pompous speal above...

I'm trying to learn Russian, and any help would be appreciated, and if you play an instrument, I'd enjoy sitting and listening to you play.
