About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"To boldly go where no man has . . ." Wait, that line has already been used. OK, let's start again. To try as much as possible to stay out of my comfort zone where I can learn, fall down, get back up, and keep going.

ABOUT ME

Ambitious, quiet, yet I enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds. Lived in the Chicago suburbs my whole life and also maintain an apartment in Boca del Rio, Veracruz, Mexico. Right now it is about a 60/40 split; USA 60%/Mexico 40%.

I am passionate about introducing intrepid travelers to the non-commercialized areas of Mexico (which is most of the country). It is a beautiful, colorful, cultural-rich, and adventurous area of the world to explore and learn. Plus, it's so close to the US.

My other passion is in working/playing with kids of all ages as an entertainer and a teacher of juggling. What a confidence builder learning how to juggle can be to young and older alike. Over several decades, I have taught about 22,000 classes in juggling in schools, libraries, park districts, community centers, and at adult organizations.

PHILOSOPHY

What was, WAS!
What is, IS!
What will be, IS YET TO BE DETERMINED!
I learn from the past but look toward today and the future.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

The beauty of travel is in hearing the stories of other people. All of us have a life that's made up of many many stories. Some are humorous, some sad, many are silly, and some are great motivators to others.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CouchSurfing sounds fascinating and I am pleased to discover all the kind folks who open up their homes to others. What a great concept.

I have only done it one time so far in Manhattan Beach, CA and in Summerville, SC. Both times my hosts were great. They introduced me to their friends, they showed my their town, and I taught them how to juggle.

Interests

Bike riding, travelling, juggling, entertaining and motivating others, photography, kayaking, reading, and bike riding. Right now, my passion is in exploring all of Mexico and then creating trips to these places for adventurous people to experience. My newest endeavour was starting a YouTube channel about my experiences in Mexico. I post one or more videos every week.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not an avid TV watcher. The sounds of nature and kids playing are my favorites. Also, 60s-70s music as well as calming/relaxing/mesmerizing -you know- piano, guitar, those wooden flute deals that those South American guys play. I like history, travel, and photography books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A really great totally relaxing and incredible beautiful day - Sailing the tropical waters between the Grenadine Islands in the Caribbean. What an experience! It was something out of Gilligan's Island.

Another, OK . . . once I rented a private AreoMexico 99 passenger plane to take a large group of Russian business people to the Chitzen Itza Archaeological site in the state of Yucatan, Mexico. We landed at the Chitzen Itza airport which is private. They opened the airport that day just for my plane. After we arrived and left, it closed down and everyone went home. Wow! A private plane and a whole airport just for me and my group. How cool is that?

Laying on my back in the grass and watching several million monarch butterflies filing the air above me on a clear blue sky sunny day in the state of Michoacan, Mexico.

Performing in front of a 1000 plus people in a huge park on a huge stage in Shanghai, China and only knowing 5 words in Chinese. Now that's a unique cultural experience!

Experiencing an incredible 12 day adventure to Egypt with a group of people led by the man who with 2 others who were the first person to kayak the entire Nile River from Burundi to the Mediterranean Ocean in 1950/51.
