ABOUT ME

All about Rob:

I'm an active musician and have been based in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2000. I spend a lot of time practicing the trombone and drum set, and am always studying new styles and approaches to music.

Lately, I've been spending a lot of time studying various "Latin" rhythms and their application to the drum set. I'm also always working to improve my jazz trombone skills. I lead a band called Disappear Incompletely that focuses on our own jazz arrangements of the music of Radiohead using horns and lots of electronic devices.

I've been based at the Jazzschool in Berkeley, California (a community music school) for the past several years, helping with the design of the program and serving as a music instructor working mainly with developing teenage musicians.

I love meeting new people and making new connections.

All about Rebecca:

I grew up on the east coast and have lived in the Bay Area for five years. I work for a grassroots advocacy organization that promotes a more just and humane US foreign policy, advocating for nuclear disarmament, diplomacy and human rights. The job is challenging but also very fulfilling and I get to interact with a lot of amazing and inspiring people.

In my spare time, I am a jazz vocalist. I work on writing arrangements to bring my own creative approach to jazz standards and pop tunes. You can check out my music at www.rebeccagriffin.com.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Rob's introduction came from a recent trip to Mexico City with my sister. We met a couple great CSers who really helped us out by showing us around a new and unfamiliar city. That experience sold me on the concept.

We surfed with Amy Davila and Spencer Rowe in San Juan, Puerto Rico in July of 2008.

Rebecca: I have a lot of experience with grassroots organizing and lobbying in the US, and US foreign policy. I speak Italian, though I'm a bit rusty these days.
