About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Sort of tumbling head-long into something mostly wonderful...

ABOUT ME

In one sentence: "I try, I really try."

For those looking for details: I am an American living in New Zealand where I am a university lecturer with several research projects in medical imaging and sustainable community design. I am happiest when: outdoors; playing music; with family; with friends; on a bicycle; discovering something new; or any combination of the above. The nature of my person and my work leads to a fair amount of travel, which I enjoy but also treat with respect. I feel privileged for the opportunities I have and look to get more from my travel experiences than pictures of myself in beautiful places. Traveling is an excellent way to learn more about yourself and more about the nature of the world and some of the great challenges that lie ahead for all of us. I want to do my part.

PHILOSOPHY

Live like your life is a work of art.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am just getting started.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've both surfed and hosted, and gained new insight and pleasure from life doing both. In modern times, we tend to forget that we are part of a society, and that means meeting people and sharing with them. Good clean, healthy fun!

Music, Movies, and Books

Yes, I like movies, music AND books! Some favorite books would include: The Idiot, by Fyodor Dostoevsky; The Trilogy of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkien; Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The greatest movie of all time is, without doubt, The Big Lebowski, by the Coen Brothers. After that they're all more or less the same movie, just with different characters...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cross country skiing down Broadway, New York.

Teach, Learn, Share

Maybe I like making music more than anything else in the world. Maybe I like making meals from whatever I can find in the cupboard. It all depends on the moment.
