About Me

Welcome to my profile,

My name is Joost and I'm currently living in Arnhem, The Netherland with my girlfriend Britte Hietkamp.
This is a short history about me:
After finishing my high school I went to the USA to work, as a volunteer, in the national parks of the southwest. And it was awesome. I got to know all these interesting people from around the globe and it became one of my most cherished memories.
The moment I got back to the Netherlands, I did not quite know what to do. I started studying forestry, but did not like being in front of a computerscreen almost every day. So I changed studies. I went for a mechanical study that was very interesting and I leaned a lot, but after finishing that and working in an engine reconditioning factory, I got bored again.
Then it happend. I finally started wood. At first it were simple jobs like flooring and painting, but now, after 6 years I get to make amazing furniture. And I love it.
But all of that is about to change.

At the moment me and my girlfriend Britte Hietkamp are about to embark on an longterm travel across a large portion of our earth. We start in Arnhem and roughly follow this route: Berlin-Moscow-Irkutsk-UlaanBaatar-Beijing-Hongkong-Vietnam-Cambodia-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore-Darwin-Rest of Australia-Unknown...
The most of this will be done by train and bus and we'll take a plane from Singapore to Darwin. We would have liked to not fly, but it got a little complicated to realize that between Singapore and Australia.

We'll be leaving at the end of februari, so until then we can host.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing for me is about meeting new people and connect to their country. Whether we are the couch surfer or the host. So it's not about "finding free accommodations".
