to get through this trimester alive...
I'm usually outspoken, creative, wordy as hell, crazy and can be very loud, but I like people a lot and am up for most things. I'm here to have fun, I guess :P.
I was born in Hong Kong and moved to NZ almost five years ago and since then haven't travelled anywhere else. Once I finish university I'll go places, but until then I'm exploring this small but lovely nation and this particular city's ridiculous numbers of cafes and theatres. I'm an arts student and addicted to words and making new things. My room is filled with books. I mope if I don't get outside into wind and fresh air, and I like tea lots :).
I guess I look for truth. Things that are real, that are true to who I am or what the sky decides to be today or what my cat wants for breakfast. Not that it eats breakfast. I love things that are beautiful, that make me laugh, that surprise me, that are wondrous and amusing or simply breathtaking. You know, that tends to be people. Or God. Or words, or trees in summer, or water, or just- anything, really.
Living is fun :).
Books. Birds. People. Trees in the streets on bright windblown days. Hot soup and garlic bread. Learning new things. Empty roads at two in the morning. Making coffee. Sunlight. Eavesdropping on conversations in buses. WH Auden. New places. Getting lost. Pretty coats and jackets. Green tea and TS Eliot. Gorgeous materials in cloth shops. Wood and copper and the benison of hot water. Exploring foreign streets. Writing poetry. Reading poetry. Earl Grey tea with honey, cream and ginger biscuits. The colour red. Watching plays, acting in plays, lighting, costuming, writing, directing and generally running madly around the endless black space shrieking with glee. Different languages. The smell of libraries. Singing in spaces that echo. Second-hand bookshops. Tall shopping malls. Second-hand clothing shops. Choirs. God. Silk thread. Safety pins. Words. The sky.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Written and co-directed a two hour murder-mystery play with a cast of twelve and an incredibly talented crew. With a paying audience. In French. (The script was translated, okay). Intense, life-sucking, obsessive and it completely took over my life for about five weeks, but it was so, so fun and I'd totally do it again if I had the time.
