Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Life-long learning, finding a job and travelling - Hopefully combining the two - Anthropologist in the making...
ABOUT ME
I dance and I laugh.... I love having people around me and I love most people... Sometimes I like to be alone though. I love learning new things and I love teaching people things. I always enjoy music - Sometimes I am shy and don't dare to dance even if I want to - Other times I don't care about what others think and I just do it. Most of the time I am a fighter, but sometimes I have to be saved!
PHILOSOPHY
We are all as good as each other - Just different and we can grow and become better together if we learn from each others beautiful differences!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am a sort of 'on and off' member...
I have surfed couches way before the couchsurfing community came to my knowledge and support the idea completely. I love the way couchsurfing.org really opens up the whole world for you!
In 2010 I surfed couches in Dakar, Senegal and in the Gambia, which was my first experience through couchsurfing and I loved every minute of it. I am hoping to go again, but my since my main travel interests are towards the African continent, I don't get to travel as often as I'd like (Except for of course visiting friends and family on very short stays in the UK and the rest of Europe!)
I am planning to go to West Africa again in the beginning of next year.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Dakar, Senegal 2010
The Gambia 2010
Interests
Dance - Especially African (Guinea/Mande dances as well as the Senegalese Sabar dance style) but all kinds of dance around the world...
People - From everywhere!!!
Cultures - From everywhere!!! The way others think, see their world and exist in their world and in relation to others is absolutely fascinating to me...
Music, Movies, and Books
I always read something, but my current three favourite 'series' are:
Danish author: Jakob Ejersbo's trilogy: 'Eksil', 'Revolution', 'Liberty'. About a Danish expat child in Tanzania and how he groes up.
Jean M. Auel's books
Stieg Larsson - The Millennium series
I love music - Almost all kinds (although techno doesn't really do it for me, and neither does noisy rock!) At home I listen mostly to African artists such as Youssou N'Dour, Salif Keita, Cheikh Lo, Ali Farka Toure, Toumani Diabate and so forth. I also like Reggae/Dancehall, all sorts of pop-music, as well as most 'folk-musics' of the world. Classical music works really well for writing long essays, but not really for dancing to, although I have been seen improvising "ballet" pieces to Mozart ;-)
I like movies, but unfortunately I don't tend to remember them much. One that has stayed with me always is - La Vita Bella (Italian film about Jewish life during the second world war, and about surviving the KZ camps - Truly moving and hard to watch, but still one I go back to because it is beautiful).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My journey to Guinea was a life-changing experience and I would love to tell you all more about it if you ask.
Teach, Learn, Share
