关于我

CURRENT MISSION

Keeping in touch with all the great people I know around the world is definitely a constant mission.

ABOUT ME

I never know how to answer the question: Where are you from?
I moved to Oregon in late summer of 2009, after living in Iceland for ten months. Before Iceland, I lived in Kansas for six very formative years.
In my childhood, my father's career moved my family all over the U.S. And I couldn't imagine growing up any better way.
I have this experience to thank for exposing me to many different environments, people, and shaping me into the person I am today.

I used to think "home" could never be affiliated with an exact location. It tends to exist inside a certain kind of person I find almost everywhere I go. But I've come to find out that I love Oregon. I came here in 2009 with my best friend, without knowing anyone else.
Our community never stops growing, and I keep getting busier and busier with things I love to do.

PHILOSOPHY

I think about this sentiment a lot:

"The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here."
-Richard Dawkins

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I signed on CS during my time in Iceland. I had a charming flat with a friend right in Reykjavik 101 (downtown), and we hosted some great people. I also went on multiple road trips with CouchSurfers and tourists around that country.
After life in Iceland, I traveled around Europe, met up with my brother and CouchSurfed around.

In the two years before I moved to Iceland, I lived in a big, old apartment in downtown Wichita, Kansas. Wichita is not a popular destination amongst travelers, BUT tons of amazing bands stop through for the DIY music scene. When I lived in there, I hosted countless bands from all over. Never did I once have a bad experience doing so.
Though it wasn't through CS, it was of a community based on trust and in support of a rad music.

兴趣

Obviously traveling & meeting people, my dog, dear friends, family, international friends and the thought of visiting them someday, drawing, painting, graphic design, DIY concerts, taking friends by surprise, eating good wholesome food, the cozy-ness of my home, my porch, antique stores, being a regular at local businesses, snail mail, drinking tea, staying up late, DANCE PARTIES, and complimenting strangers.

音乐、电影和书籍

Movies: I've become a big fan of documentaries.
Music: I'm very passionate the music I book & promote.

Books: Great Fiction. Anthologies, gems of small press, literary journals, and social theories.

I know it doesn't ask about your favorite television shows here, let alone favorite podcasts or radio shows, but I feel the need to mention that I am an avid listener of NPR, This American Life, The Moth, RadioLab and other various podcasts.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Some friends and I were roadtripping in Iceland, and we spontaneously took this mysterious road towards a farm and who else knows what. As we neared the farm, a dog came out and started barking at us. I was driving, so I turned us around and headed back down the road we came in from. The dog ran faster to catch up till he was right in front of us, staring us down, in the middle of the road. We honked; he barked. I drove a little to the right, he shifted to block, same to the left. Snow lined the road, and there was really no where else to drive. This dog was not letting us go.
In the car, we pondered for a second, and we couldn't help but laugh while we brainstormed a strategy to get out around him.
We rolled down the windows to yell, but the dog just held his ground and barked. So, we threw some food out the window to deflect his attention. The dog hesitated and took the bait... Just as I started to drive forward, the dog raced around in front of us again barking his head off. I slammed on the breaks and then turned the wheel to the right, but he got so upset, he BIT THE TIRE.
Eventually, we threw food again and again away from the car and waited. Minutes later, the dog finally went for the food, but cautiously. I really hit the gas that time, and we were free.
I looked back at the dog through the rearview mirror, and he was so surprised, he dropped the food from his mouth, standing there fully deceived, gaping at us.

教,学,和分享

Conversation, conservation, booking and cooking together. Sharing music and art.

Hopefully catch a concert with friends and visit local businesses.
I love cooking and experimenting in the kitchen.
Having a cup of tea or a delicious microbrew or a glass of NW wine!
We can chat and walk and dote on my dog.
