About Me

CURRENT MISSION

High School Teacher ... Fall 2012

ABOUT ME

-
**-----Myself-----**
I consider myself an extroverted, multi-perspective-ed, well worded geek of an individual. In appreciating a variety of personalities, I feel that I can sociably relate on a multitude of topics. Though I have been wronged and cheated, I do believe that most perspectives and people deserve a certain consideration and chance.

I am Nebraskan born, raised, and educated. However, I have had the good fortune of traveling outside of the Midwest (and US) with family, friends, and activities. I do love my hometown and miss hiking the bluffs over the Platte River at times -- but it has been a blessing to have traversed the mountains, beaches, and plains of North America and Europe.

Among my siblings I am unavoidably the 'Grey' sheep. I could not really do 'better' or 'worse' if I tried. Ultimately, it means that I have taken away a great deal from both of my brothers' quite varied experiences.

**-----The Pets-----**
(Manu - Yellow Lab - 5yrs)
I am pretty sure that he is the best dog in the world. He has been the greatest, most well mannered companion ever since I sprung him from that concrete hellhole of a puppy prison.

(Themis - SHD cat - 9yrs)
I also have a small orange cat, with a huge Napoleon complex. She is pretty awesome too, if not a little misunderstood.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

-
Have hosted cross-country travelers (...why not stop over in the Great Plains). Other participation has consisted of exchanging information, making contacts, and some CS group involvement.

I am still really looking forward to surfing a couch myself while traveling, and hosting more people here in Lincoln.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

-
**--Currently--**: I have hosted, and am hoping to host again. I am also hoping to surf with other CS members in the future.

**--Past--**: Have surfed/crashed on arranged and unknown couches (and floors). Have hosted familiar, and less than familiar, folks for an evening.

Hospitality has been an important theme in my upbringing. My homes have always been gathering places and I have put up many friends/acquaintances for the night. In the cases involving travelers - it has sometimes stretched on for longer.

While traveling, I have surfed a variety of accommodations in dozens of places. Many were related to family, friends, and school - many others include a regular summer activity and church mission trips. The last two entries encompass over 60 some experiences, ranging from church pews to mansions.

My favorite, and best, couch surfing was done before CS - while I studied abroad for several months based out of Spain:

**In South London, I stayed with a good friend made in Spain. Her friends lived at an old train-maintenance yard turned Bohemian art community. It was amazing.

**In Brighton, I had the great fortune of randomly befriending some English youth. I had been turned out onto the very cold streets by a 'closed' hostel. I was invited home to a house party for a young man's coming of age at 18 after their pub tour. It sure was a weird floor for a night, but I made it to my ship off of the isle the next morning.

**A similarly random, and great, experience involved being kicked out of a Parisian train station. A Peruvian French teacher put me up for the night...and our only common language was Spanish.

All said and done; I feel that I have equally extended, and found, great hospitality.
