ABOUT ME

My name is Rob, I was born and raised in Maastricht, a small city in the south of the Netherlands. I consider myself a fun person to hang out with, and hope to do so with a lot of people. Although I study from time to time and I work a lot, I'm always looking for some time to hang out and be around/meet people to have a good time.

I try to host as many people as possible and show them good times in my cities!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted a lot of really cool people, mostly in Amsterdam, because in Copenhagen I unfortunately don't have a lot of space. I have surfed somebody's couch once before, but I don't think it counts since she had surfed mine before.

I love couchsurfing, I've met a lot of people who made me wanna move to other countries, only because they were so cool and loving life. However, there have been a couple of people as well who were not that cool. Couchsurfing in my opinion is about sharing a culture which is not your own, and seeing a city through the eyes of its citizens. I've had people over without respect for me and the way I live my life. You could compare it to a vegetarian complaining about somebody eating meat. A basic disagreement between people is alright, really, but I think as a couchsurfer (and as a host!) you should respect and perhaps tolerate another one's lifestyle. Also, being a couchsurfer in my opinion means sharing. Sharing stories and cultural experience. Several people (most of them surfing for the first time) have considered my apartment in Amsterdam as a free hotel, a place to stay in between the coffeeshop visits. I don't think this is what couchsurfing is made for. Hostels are pretty cheap, CS offers more, that's why you should give it a try!
