Overview
About Me
Growing up in New Zealand meant I was always out and in nature. I love getting out for an explore at any opportunity, whether in New Zealand, Melbourne or a far flung corner of the planet.
Getting lost in the world is the best way to find yourself....or whatever, I just like seeing new things, with a particular penchant for Soviet monuments.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Engaging with locals gives you a great insight to the way of life and the heartbeat of a city/country. With my partner in crime https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/martlmartl I've learnt about how great the platform is and the way it brings people together.

Music, Movies, and Books
Musically I'm pretty diverse, a lot of rock (Pearl Jam, Muse and Metallica some of the faves) finds its way onto the music library, can be indie, metal, very slow and soft, rap, but introduce electronic drums and auto-tune and you've lost me.
I'm a sucker for a good action movie, but drama and documentaries get a good run as well. The Departed and Snatch are probably 2 of the all time greats. While not movies, Ricky Gervais' standup (plus The Office and Extras) and the greatest Sit-Com of all time 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' will keep me entertained for hours.
Love biographies, and mostly read non-fiction, Levison Wood's 'Walking the Nile' really got the travel juices flowing, 'Open' by Andre Agassi and "At the close of play", Ricky Ponting's Bio are great.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Every day you get to see or learn something new is amazing, and on my adventures I've certainly seen and done some amazing things, but one.....hmmmm.
Off the cuff hiring a car with some people I met at a hostel and embarking on a road trip around Bulgaria so we could see, and sneak into, Buzludzha (old Bulgarian soviet meeting place), in the center of the country, and go Soviet monument hunting springs to mind.
Teach, Learn, Share
Well, I can teach you a couple of words of Maori, the native language of New Zealand and a couple of places to get a good brew (coffee or beer) in Wellington (where I'm from) and Melbourne (where I live).
Willing to learn anything, a few local customs/words in each new country, and always enjoy learning about ways to become a better photographer.
Sharing travel stories over dinner and a beer are some of my favorite travel memories.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can impart my knowledge about my home country, 'The Office' and 'Always Sunny' quotes, and I'm a tall electrician so I can change light bulbs pretty easily.
