About Me

Hey there, I'm Marco! I work in FinTech with a core passion that takes me far beyond screens: traveling, soaking up new cultures, and learning languages (English, Spanish, and currently learning Portuguese!). I'm generally a positive and cheerful person who finds real joy in connecting with people and hearing their stories.

For me, Couchsurfing is about that genuine cultural exchange – understanding different ways of life firsthand. I love everything from exploring historical corners of a city and hiking in nature to discussing technology or simply sharing a coffee and conversation. I really value kindness, politeness, and mutual respect in interactions. Whether I'm hosting or surfing, I appreciate clear communication and understanding.

:: HOSTING & SURFING STYLE ::

When I host (mostly available weekend evenings), I offer a calm and relaxed space. Please note that my main motivation for hosting is cultural exchange, so I do hope we can spend some time together, whether it's exploring the city a bit, sharing a meal, or just chatting about our experiences – it's not just a free place to sleep. I'm not big on parties, drinking, or smoking/substances myself (though I respect others' choices!), as I prefer a quieter environment for connection. Please also note I cannot accommodate pets. As a guest, I strive to be considerate, tidy, and easygoing. I'm eager to learn from you and happy to share my own experiences.

:: GOOD TO KNOW ::

I kindly ask that you only send a friend request if we've actually met.

Also, for clarity and mutual comfort, I'm straight and my interest in Couchsurfing is focused solely on cultural exchange and friendship.

Hope our paths might cross on this journey!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing to connect with the amazing community of travelers and hosts. For me, it's about building genuine friendships across borders, sharing experiences, and creating positive memories together. Traveling solo is great, but meeting friendly, interesting people truly elevates the journey.

I enjoy hosting when I can (usually weekends/evenings), offering not just a couch but also local tips and friendly conversation to help fellow travelers. When I'm surfing myself, I'm eager to learn from my hosts and appreciate the chance to see a place through their eyes. Ultimately, it's about the spirit of sharing – time, stories, space, and kindness.

Interests

I'm genuinely fascinated by history, particularly exploring how Mexico's rich past connects with other parts of the world – I love visiting museums and historical sites to learn more. On a different note, I dedicate time to reading about Stoicism, meditation, and Buddhist philosophy (especially authors like Thích Nhất Hạnh), as I find these perspectives grounding and insightful. Happy to discuss these ideas if you're interested!

For leisure, I enjoy watching thoughtful movies that make you think. I also like socializing and meeting people, perhaps by exploring different neighborhoods, grabbing a coffee, or having a relaxed conversation in a quiet bar or cafe.

My professional life is in Fintech, specifically working with a company focused on international remittances. It's an interesting intersection of technology and global finance, and I'm always up for chatting about tech trends or the future of finance if that interests you too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not sure I've done anything amazing... Everything I've ever accomplished has been by standing on the shoulders of giants and accepting the gifts that have been given to me.

Teach, Learn, Share

:: WHAT I CAN OFFER / SHARE ::

Language exchange is something I enjoy – I'm happy to help you practice your English or Spanish! If technology sparks your interest, especially programming or Fintech, I can share some insights from my work. I can also share some basics about personal finance if that's useful to you. More broadly, I love sharing tips and perspectives about life here in vibrant Mexico City.

Beyond skills, I'm happy to share my time for good conversation, perhaps exploring a neighborhood together, or sharing a simple meal. I aim to be a good listener and offer friendly company and helpful local knowledge.

:: WHAT I HOPE TO LEARN ::

I'm incredibly eager to learn about your world! Tell me about your culture, your country's customs, and your language (I'm always keen to practice languages I know, but genuinely curious about all languages!). I especially value hearing personal stories about everyday life – the joys, challenges, perspectives, and realities. I'm particularly interested in understanding the immigrant experience in different places. Essentially, I want to learn what life is truly like through your eyes!

What I Can Share with Hosts

As your guest, my main goal is to be respectful of your home, rules, and routine. I'm tidy, considerate, and communicate clearly. I enjoy sharing through good conversation – offering perspectives from my life experiences, travels, my work in tech/fintech, or interests like history and philosophy. I'm also happy to practice English or Spanish with you! Just as much, I'm eager to listen and learn about your life and culture. Expect friendly company and genuine curiosity from my end.
