About Me

Currently not accepting guests due to the Covid 19 restrictions, but if you want to meet up in Kinsale, I'd be delighted to be your guide for a walk about the sights, or to advise you on how best to spend your time. I am from this beautiful town in County Cork, Ireland, and my work involves theatre, film, radio and events.

I am home from travelling for a couple of years now, so nearly have all the furniture in the new apartment, no spare bed yet, but the double mattress is comfy, as is the couch, I slept on it myself the first week. I made some awesome new friends while couchsurfing, happy to pay it forward.

When I travel, I love to meet new people, and share songs and stories, go dancing, or have a meal together, but equally happy to explore alone if you're busy, I enjoy my own company and make conversation easily enough when I need that of others. I'm a fairly independent traveler, and a busy host, so this is about a new connection, I don't need to live in your pocket, and I treat my guests and hosts with great trust and respect We may end up spending a lot of time together, but only if it turns out to be an easy friendship, I take nothing for granted, and start with no expectations, but sometimes you just click and other times it's not so perfect, but kindness works wonders.

When I visit you I will not be on a mad schedule of 'must see' places, I will want to relax, and get to know where I am, and a local event, or local band, with local hosts, will mean as much to me as any world famous icon of your area. Yes, I do enjoy those too, but life is too short to spend it on an unbending agenda, the surprises are often the best memories of a trip.

Fun, kind, naturally friendly and good humoured, that's me. I can enjoy quiet time, as much as party time, but I will most likely want to be out and about when visiting, or be glued to my laptop working if at home.

Due to a problem with the email I used to create my first CS account, I have had to start again, but for extra references you can check it out https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/yvonne_coughlan

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people in new places, and really see what a new place is like with a native, and to be the same ambassador of home for my visitors.

There are so many fantastic people in this world, and I'm all for meeting more of them, while broadening my mind, and my horizons.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Live, anything live, I love to sing, so being in a room of musicians is one of my favourite things. If I have to pick a band that's impossible, but the last music I listened to before writing this was Michael Buble... System of a Down reminds me of college days... Dvorak-New world Symphony, in the background now demanding attention, but any symphony just rocks my world, and if I'm in the same room, wow, mind blowing, soul massage... Florence and the Machine I want to see live, can't believe I missed them at Electric Picnic... last live performances I witnessed were during Cork Jazz festival, and before that Cork Folk Festival, massive talent locally in the pubs here in my hometown too, on a weekly basis.

Some of my favourites: Nina Simone, Jimmy McCarthy, John Spillane, Adele, Van the man Morrison, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Rory Gallagher, Muddy Waters, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Alanis Morissette

Elbow, Waterboys, Doors, U2, REM, The Band, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach.

I love music, give it to me; Jazz, Blues, Funk, Motown, Soul, R and B, Rock n Roll, Folk, Ethnic, Trad, Country, Gypsy, Classical, Reggae, World, Cajun, Rockabilly, Rap, Electro House, Party Dance, Garage, Drum and Bass... and I love to dance, not well up to date on my trained moves, so tango, salsa, swing, I might need a good strong lead... but otherwise, if its got a beat I'll be jumping around to it.

Movies: I love movies, I dream of making a great movie some day, I have enjoyed making shorts and music videos, and I love to watch movies even when the bad ones cause me pain (all that wasted budget, and misused talent and energy). These ones are great though, in my humble opinion... Pulp fiction, The Shawshank Redemption, Romeo + Juliet, Good Will Hunting, The Matrix, The Bourne Identity, Moulin Rouge...

Books: The Time Traveller's Wife, anything by Grisham, currently reading Colm Toibin, and Oscar Wilde is an old friend, so many witticisms. I fell in love with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, as a child, so Douglas Adams remains my favourite, and I may have to re-read some day. I don't read as much as I used to, but I write a lot more, plays mostly. How fantastic if someone were to read my book some day.... I'll have to see about that... or is a blog the way to go now?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not sure what might qualify, I have made some beautiful work in theatre and film, and been on crazy travel adventures, but I always think the most amazing thing I've ever done is have a child, who is now a man, and has made me a gran (a glamourous one I hope, but there you go)

Teach, Learn, Share

Theatre, dance, singing, food, laughs, always good to share a laugh.

Even looking for hosts on this new travel adventure is fun, so many lovely people to chat to about where they live and why they love it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A love of life
A meal or two ( I'm a pretty good cook)
A song or two, if you like jazz, blues, country or ballad
A dance, I can teach you Irish set dancing, or hit the local club with you.
A kind heart
A sense of fun
