With its French roots, Montreal is like a piece of Europe in eastern Canada. It’s got wonderful architecture, a great culinary scene, and festivals celebrating the city’s artistic personality. Visitors can start by walking up to the Belvedere Observatory at the top of Mont-Royal for an excellent view of the city and mountains beyond. Then, make your way to St. Paul Street to experience Montreal’s European culture to the fullest among tons of restaurants, bars, and shops. Be sure to try some poutine, a signature Quebec dish of french fries topped with cheese curds and smothered in brown gravy, and wash it down with one of the city’s delicious craft beers.

Visit the Basilique Notre-Dame, one of the most ornate gothic cathedrals in the world, with a famous, massive organ. Spend some time strolling the streets of Plateau Mont-Royal, a lined with Victorian houses and fantastic local boutiques. This historic neighborhood embodies the personality of Montreal itself, so lose yourself for a while here and just wander.
