I would love to listen to live bossa nova music in Rio. Any suggestions on where to go?

I'm open to other genres too. And while I'm not fluent in Portuguese, I love hip-hop and would be open to Brazilian hip-hop!

Thiago Gralha , Rio de Janeiro, BRA, about 2 months ago

Every saturday have Charme and Hip Hop in Madureira. But I like to go on fridays to Febarj, in Lapa, good too!

Flavio Eduardo , Sao Joao de Meriti, BRA, 2 months ago

Hi Melanie!
You'll find some bossa nova and choro at Bip Bip bar in Copacabana every Tuesday and Wednesday! Brazilian hip hop a specific place is in the district of Madureira every Saturday or baile black do bom in Gamboa next to the Museum of tomorrow and Pedra do Sal! There are some night clubs as well!

Hi dear brazilian,

My name is Edisan, i'm from Paris (France) and i will be in Rio from July 13th to July 19th. I need your local advice because i will be alone during my trip and i would like to know the best places where i can stay (i'm searching on airbnb). This is the first time that I travel alone and I want to meet people, make new friends and enjoy the beach. I hope that you will have time to give me some advices about the good places, activities... And if you want to know more about France, it will be a pleasure for me :)

Patrick Steiche , Rio de Janeiro, BRA, 2 months ago

Hey Edisan, maybe it is the easiest to stay in a hostel for meeting people. They have some pretty cool ones in Copacabana, Ipanema or Lapa. And if you are using the couchsurfing app you can use the new hangout function to get in contact with others.

Edisan JN , Paris, FRA, 2 months ago

Hi Patrick, Thanks for your answer.
Finally I'm gonna follow your advice and booked in a hostel.
Do you know in which Area I should booked to hanging out in Rio ? And do you know a good hostel in Rio ? After some research I found Cabana Copa Hostel, have you ever had any feedback about this hostel ?

PS : My travel schedule has changed, I will be in Rio from July 14th to July 17th

Hey! I know you already went to Brazil - sorry for coming to late!- but I still want to post the answer so other people can read it. I'm sure there are some other travelers with the same type of question :)

Well, Rio is a bit expensive, especially in the most touristic areas like Copacabana and Ipanema. Although, there are some hostels with a decent price...
I stayed close to Lapa and it was better for me, the area has restaurants, night life and, it's close to the metro. I was going to the beach during the day and then coming to the hostel at night.... You can find some places (airbnbs and hostels) at ..the site will shows you all the options close whether close to the beach or Lapa.

Californian here in Rio for a month. I'm looking for someone to teach me how to surf and give me lessons. I saw someone post in the events section a few days ago but can't find them anymore.

Does anyone here know of a good person who can teach me how to surf?

Flavio Eduardo , Sao Joao de Meriti, BRA, 2 months ago

Hey Sachin
Take a look at this web page
I haven't found it in English so you can have the lessons at Barra da Tijuca beach posto 4
That one is on Arpoador beach in Ipanema
Hang loose!

Sachin Jain , Berkeley, USA, 2 months ago

Thanks, Flavio! That price looks pretty good. I'll give them a call!

If anyone else has any recs, let me know!

hi all friends, with a friend of mine we'll want to visit rio between 19-26 september. we have a flight from buenos aires to sao paulo but we don't wanna stay in sao paolo so we'll a week to spent in brazil. rio is our main target but as we read from social media, rio isn't safe for tourists, especially at night. we don't want to stay at our flat at night because of safety issues. so i want to ask locals, is it safe to stay a week in rio and hang out at night. if it's not we are planning to go florianopolis, i hope you'll say nice things about rio, because we really want to see this great city.

Daniel Bernd , Rio de Janeiro, BRA, 16 days ago

Rio is as safe or dangerous as any other big city in the world. Take care of your belongings, not showing anything expensive on the streets.

Lirone Samoun , Antibes, FRA, 17 days ago

Just take care and don't show your camera, phone and anything with value. If you are collar or others things like that just take off.

I got threatened by 4 guys with a knife on copacabana beach at around 6pm..They took my collar. Fortunately they did not take my bag (camera, passeport, money...).I did not expect this kind of Welcome from Rio ^^

Just avoid to be alone in touristic place and during the night :)

Manoel Marim , Rio de Janeiro, BRA, 24 days ago

I would come if I was you.
In the most known touristic places you will be as safe as you would in the most touristic big cities of the world, just take care of your cameras, phones and etc.

Hello! I'm making a big travel in America latina. One friend will join me in february and we'll go to see Rio carnaval together. We would like to participate, do you think that's a good idea? Do you think I've better to come one month before to learn Samba?
