I like to see things/places when I travel that are hidden gems. Any reccomendations?

I would highly recommend Hillwood Garden and Museum. I think it's one of the hidden gems of DC! http://www.hillwoodmuseum.org/

There are hundreds of trails in MD and VA within a 1-2 hour drive - for instance, see http://www.hikingupward.com/maps/. There are also heritage trail hikes within DC (although elevation gain is minimal). See http://www.culturaltourismdc.org/portal/neighborhood-heritage-trails. The Billy Goat Trail at Great Falls is a favorite hike. See http://www.washingtonian.com/articles/travel/take-a-hike-good-outdoor-walks-for-fall/.

Hi everyone,

I am visiting DC for the day and I am trying to figure out if there is a place with lockers or somewhere I can store my luggage for the day so I don't have to carry it around. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thank you =)

National Gallery of Art, open from about 10-5PM, near Capitol Building and Union Station. Free check room. Lots of my surfers have used it.

Gabriel , Daytona Beach, USA, 2 months ago

Post that on the Facebook DC couch surfing group. It's active and people are very helpful on there.

The Mall of the Smithsonian Museums have a lot of lockers in them. Every museum is different, so check their websites. Judea, Washington, DC

Hi CSers, I'm visiting your city this weekend (15th-17th) for a conference, and thinking of checking out comedy clubs in evenings.
Are there places that you'd recommend for good laughs?
Also, if you're interested in joining me, reply to this post--I'll keep you updated!

The Big Hunt has Comedy Underground every Friday and Saturday night. Shows at 8 (for like 20 bucks) and then at 10 (free).

Atsya, random suggestion. I know you're looking for comedy, but if you like great local jazz clubs, check out Blues Alley. It's famous, so you might have been there already, but it's worth a look-see. Enjoy DC!

This looks great, but it looks like the tickets for this weekend are sold out already :(

Hi,

Just wanted to find out how the weather is in Washington in early April generally ? I'm intending to be there for a few days at that point. Thanks

Erik Meltzer , Washington, USA, 2 months ago

In general it's ok, but it can be hit or miss. We have a big cherry blossom festival in town around that time of year and you can keep track of when the flowers will be in bloom at this site when the date gets closer: http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/about/bloom-watch/

christopher taylor , Washington, USA, 2 months ago

Ronan, Erik is correct, the weather around DC is entirely unpredictable although usually above 15°C during the day in April, might still dip in the single digits overnight. Will likely be some rain.

Does anyone know of a Pay What You Can cafe / volunteer based cafe / food project in DC where we could work for a meal? (Similar to the SAME Cafe in Denver if you're unsure what I mean!) We're doing a completely moneyless travel challenge (www.pretenniless.com) and in need of a good hot meal whilst we're in DC! :)

CHAKRABARTI , Washington, USA, 11 days ago

"Karma Kitchen" is an event that usually happens on the last Sunday of every month. http://www.karmakitchen.org/city/dc

One usually meets interesting people and you can pay what you want at the end of the meal.

Hope this helps!
