I am a Canadian girl looking to move to Freiburg and learn German. Can anyone recommend a language school?

Experience the German culture !
Hello, our reading circle "Belchenblick" in Freiburg meets from time to time to improve the German language and to get to know this culture. We come together usually on Friday, Saturday or Sunday at 7 PM. Ask for a upcoming day !
berlitz is for A1 level - VERY BASIC
Volkhochschule B1 to C2 level
- but the teachers run away when you try to ask them a question.
- in our class (C1) we had 2 teachers.
- One (Beante) was very nice.
- The other (Hilde) she was an absolute bitch, she tried to set the students against each other by telling some they were great (who had been living germany for 4 years), and others (me- 2 weeks in Germany and never learnt German before) that they were very bad. She favours certain students (only they get to read and talk) whereas others are ignored. And when a Turkish girl told me that she wanted to sit in my seat and was extremely rude the teacher did nothing.
- Hilde was shocked when I got the second highest mark in the test.
- After that very bad experience I learnt by myself (talking with local Germans)
I wouldn't recommend visiting Germany at the moment. I was sexually molested by a refugee who lives in Freiburg (Tittisee Neustadt). The police had no interest and the situation is only getting (much) worse. The situation is particularly bad at stuttgart airport and on trains and on the streets. The (christian) africans in Feldberg / are constantly asking women for sex, even the old woman who say NO many times. In Tuttlingen the arabs and africans spit and curse in Arabic when they see a woman on the street without a headscarf and not accompanied by a man. I lived there for 2 years. I left in June.
If you want to get entrance to a university then you need to sit the DSH exam
- only the SLI offers preparation courses for the DSH
- in Freiburg it is a 2 week course
- in Manheim there is a Month long course that is much better
- the DSH is not accepted in Stuttgart
- the cheaper the course the worse it is
- you should learn by speaking with native speakers, bot with foreigners who speak some other language
- there is a lot that you can learn online: - contact me as I am not giving this information out to certain people
- learn by yourself, at home (read newspapers, try out the practice exams, etc)
(I was advised by the SLI to do this and it was the best advice.)
- then when you are good enough pay for a good C1/DSH preparation course

I have been having problems with IOR! Do not go to this school! because the organization does not care about a single foreigner since there are way too many people especially refugees want to attend classes there and there are always long waiting list. it's why the school does not respect students, even teachers having problems with the organization. The front desk ladies from school expect you to be able to speak good German when you have any issues try to communicate or even the first time going there ask for some information, later when anything happened, they blamed on you because you don't understand German! Hey, if my German is good, why do I need a language school?!!! other comment above mentioned about class size and other negative things are all true.
Earlier this year, I had my A1-A2 classes at Berlitz, which is an international language school. By then I complained about the teacher and classmates a lot at home. Later I switched to IOR because the B1 class schedule at Berlitz didn't work for me. When I'm now in IOR, compared 2 schools, OMG, Berlitz is definitely much better!

Hello Nadine, cool you're vegan and also interested in supporting animal right organisations. I would recommend you to check out the fb groups called: Vegan und mehr - Freiburg and Freiburg vegan . There's also a fb page called: Vegane Stammtische in Freiburg i. Br. you should like. If you want we could eat together somewhen, I'am also relative new in Freiburg and still have to go to El Haso for example. A good place to eat a vegan Döner would be Amara near the Hbf. Cheers! Edu

I just had a great day hiking in the black forest and was wondering if anyone can recommend some nice hikes to do (nothing is too short or long maybe no more than 30 km).
And if anyone would like to come along , I would love some company. :-)
Look forward to hearing some advise ..

Sounds great. I don't know too many hikes in the area but would like to discover more. I can provide some maps of the area. If you are planning to go on a hike the last weekend of june or the first of july, you're warmly welcome to let me know.

I live in the Black Forest and occasionally get around to some hiking around here. I still have a great deal left to explore but I've hiked along the Höllental a couple times now and that's pretty nice, more so in the upper regions. I'll let you know the next time I get out, if you'll do the same. :)

Hi Couchsurfers. After 5 months I'm leaving Bruxelles and I'm going back to Italy. Here the situation is very bad.
Is there anyone who can host me just for one night tomorrow?
I'll be very happy to see you again in Italy!
