Stockholm was founded in the 13th century and has been growing steadily ever since, welcoming visitors from around the world and showcasing the simple pleasures of Scandinavian life. The city is situated on an archipelago consisting of 14 islands, which means there are bridges scattered over the beautiful waterways at every turn. Visitors will want to stroll the cobbled streets of Gamla Stan (Old Town) to experience the city’s history and take advantage of the incredible restaurants there. It’s in this district where you’ll find the Nobel Museum, Stockholm Cathedral, the Swedish Royal Palace, and the famous square called Stortorget.

Catch a ferry to the island of Djurgården to see some of Stockholm’s best museums, including Skansen. This is a massive open-air museum and zoo that showcases not only Scandinavian wildlife, but fascinating exhibits on traditional Swedish life. Also on the island is the Vasa Museum, home to the world’s only intact 17th century warship: the Vasa. Visitors can view the ship in all its grandeur by climbing up the four levels of the museum.
